The Centre for the Study of British Politics and Public Life is based in the Department of Politics at Birkbeck College, University of London.

The Centre aims to:

  • Engage with key issues in British politics and public life through public debates, conferences, lectures, seminars and seminar series, and workshops.
  • Invite prominent figures in British politics and public life to contribute to events.
  • Promote collaboration between academics and researchers at Birkbeck into British politics and public life.
  • Encourage the development of interdisciplinary and comparative academic approaches to British politics and public life, bringing together political scientists, political theorists, historians, economists, and others who work in the humanities and social sciences.
  • Develop new and innovative approaches to the study of British politics and public life by bringing together academics, researchers, and practitioners in politics and public life.
  • Develop as a base for visiting scholars and a provider of postgraduate interdisciplinary programmes in British politics and public life.

The Centre membership is comprised of academic staff from different Departments across Birkbeck College.
